Day 1: Beijing

Today we had a wonderful tour of Beijing. We woke up at 4:00 am, and we're at breakfast by 6:00 am. There were several families nervously anticipating becoming new parents at breakfast. After breakfast, we went to the Forbidden City in the morning, then to a silk market before lunch.

We had lunch at a lovely traditional Chinese restaurant and then headed past the Olympic village to the Summer Palace.

The main stadium where the Olympics is being held is called the "Birds Nest".

We learned a lot about Chinese history today and took a nice walk through Summer Palace. The weather started out pretty chilly in the morning, and was very warm and sunny by the afternoon.

Beijing is a very large city. The area of city seems immense. Olympic Village is in the north, Forbidden City is in the center of the city, and Summer Palace is on the western edge of the City, near the mountains. We saw a number of newly adopted children touring Summer Palace.

Tomorrow we will be going to the Great Wall, and then a Jade market in the morning. Then we will be going on a Ricksaw tour in the afternoon followed by a Chinese acrobatic show.

One more day until we meet Lindsey!! We can't wait!

Hello Chris and Kim. We are so glad that you had a safe trip and that any airport drama you experienced was while you were on the ground. We are so excited for you both and are counting the days until you arrive back in the states with our new niece. I think there are a lot of people who will probably want to meet you all at the airport when you arrive. We are eagerly making our plans for when we see you and your new family all together...finally. We know it has been a long time coming for you and we are so pround and excited about it. Love you both and hope that you really stop and enjoy each day. You are so lucky to have the good fortune to be able to travel and we can just imagine how the adrenaline must be pumping inside both of you.
love,
